And there's still room for a motivating lunch

One of our guest speakers at the Swynford Paddocks networking lunch was Stephen Walker of Motivation Matters Limited.

The effect of motivation on behaviour was explored by offering £5 to anyone volunteering to come up to the front and strut around clucking like a chicken for ten seconds. This is a phenomenal pay rate of £1800 per hour!

There was no rush of volunteers but Tina Riches of Riches Watts Ltd came forward and delighted the audience with a fine display, to wild applause.

In contrast to the reluctance of everyone to cluck for money, everyone agreed that to save a child’s life they would do it happily.

The message is that money does not motivate people as effectively as striving to achieve a good cause. At work you have to manage that good cause to be your business, your organisation’s objectives.

So how about Tina’s motivation? Tina put the money to good use straight away; she is fundraising for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice Milton and was motivated by her own good cause.
