So what are we doing wrong? Let me explain by comparison with our use of accountants. Most of us draw up our own books day to day but very few would consider themselves competent to submit their accounts without an accountant ensuring best, and most advantageous, practice. If you get it wrong it costs you money or a visit from the Revenue!
When it comes to motivating staff, most of us feel competent to manage day by day without any audit to ensure best, and most advantageous, practice. If you get it wrong it costs you money but your staff won’t tell you. They may quit or, worse, stay and be negative.
It’s astonishing that, in the face of all the evidence, employers are failing to regularly audit their motivation management practices.
Perhaps employers have, in the past, been dissuaded by the exotic fashionable solutions being proffered? That’s understandable but no excuse for inaction.
